India Accelerates Global Renewable Energy Surge with Record Capacity Addition

At the Global Energy Leaders’ Summit 2025 in Puri, India’s Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, announced a record increase in non-fossil energy capacity of 31.25 GW for the fiscal year 2025-26, marking India's significant contribution to global renewable energy expansion. The county's solar capacity alone surpassed 24.28 GW. India has been a central player in achieving 2 TW of global renewable energy capacity. As part of furthering this green transition, Minister Joshi highlighted the launch of 1.5 lakh rooftop solar units in Odisha under the new Utility-Led Aggregation model, set to benefit approximately 7-8 lakh citizens, particularly from economically weaker sections. These initiatives underscore India's shift from coal reliance to renewable energy, supported by strategic governmental and industrial cooperation.
