India Achieves Historic Deep Sea Dive Milestone
On August 5 and 6, 2025, Indian aquanauts Cdr. Jatinder Pal Singh and Raju Ramesh successfully conducted deep ocean expeditions reaching depths of 4,025 meters and 5,002 meters in the Atlantic Ocean. This achievement marks India's entry into an elite group of nations capable of such deep-sea exploration. The dives were part of a collaborative effort with the French marine research institute IFREMER, utilizing the submersible Nautile. This milestone is a precursor to India's Samudrayan Mission, which aims to send aquanauts to 6,000 meters by 2027 using the indigenously developed MATSYA-6000 submersible, part of the government's Deep Ocean Mission to explore and harness ocean resources.
