India Achieves Peak Power Demand with Zero Shortage
On June 9, 2025, India successfully met a peak power demand of 241 GW without any shortages, marking a significant milestone in the country's power sector. Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal announced that India added a record 34 GW of generation capacity in 2024-25, primarily from renewable sources. Key initiatives include a new 30 GWh Battery Energy Storage scheme, an extended ISTS waiver for storage projects, and plans for an Ultra High Voltage AC Transmission System by 2034. The national energy shortage has plummeted to a record low of 0.1%.
