India Achieves Record Peak Power Demand with 256 GW Supply

On 25 April 2026, India successfully met an unprecedented peak power demand of 256.1 GW without any shortages, maintaining electricity exports to neighboring countries. The achievement was supported by a 65 GW capacity addition during FY 2025-26, ensuring system preparedness to meet high demand conditions. Electric power was supplied through a diverse mix of sources, including solar, thermal, and nuclear, with solar energy contributing significantly during the peak.
