India Adopts Advanced Dairy Techniques to Boost Milk Productivity

The Indian government, through the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, is implementing several initiatives to improve milk productivity and genetic quality of livestock across the country. These initiatives include the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, which expands artificial insemination services using high genetic merit semen, and the Accelerated Breed Improvement Programme, which employs sex sorted semen and bovine IVF technology. Additionally, genomic chips have been developed for selecting high genetic merit animals. Other programs like the National Programme for Dairy Development and the National Livestock Mission provide support and infrastructure for quality testing and market access. Furthermore, climate resilience in agriculture is being enhanced through projects like the National Innovations on Climate Resilient Agriculture, focusing on developing climate-resilient fodder and livestock technologies.
