India Advances Biopharma Sector through Entrepreneurship and Indigenous Initiatives

The Government of India is actively promoting entrepreneurship and indigenous manufacturing in the biopharma sector through various initiatives. The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) established the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) to support startups and innovators with funding and resources. Key funding schemes like the Biotechnology Ignition Grant (BIG) and the Launching Entrepreneurial Driven Affordable Products (LEAP) Fund have fostered innovation. The National Biopharma Mission (NBM) is another significant effort, enhancing vaccine and medical device development. Moreover, the Department of Pharmaceuticals is implementing a Production Linked Incentive scheme to boost biopharmaceutical production. The efforts collectively aim to strengthen India's position in biopharma innovation and manufacturing, involving key projects like vaccine production, diagnostic kits, and establishing biomanufacturing hubs.
