India Advances in Supercomputing: 37 Systems and Indigenous Innovations
Under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), India has deployed 37 supercomputers totaling 40 Petaflops to foster research and self-reliance in technology. Launched in April 2015 with a budget of ₹4,500 crore, the initiative involves the Ministry of Electronics and IT, and the Department of Science and Technology, partnering with C-DAC Pune and IISc Bengaluru. The "PARAM Rudra" series, featuring domestically developed components, supports over 13,000 researchers, resulting in 1,500 research papers, and is leveraged for critical areas like drug discovery and disaster management. The mission emphasizes indigenous technology advancements including the development of Rudra Server Boards and high-speed communication networks.
