India Advances Localized Weather Forecasting with New Models
The Ministry of Earth Sciences of India has introduced sophisticated weather forecasting systems as part of Mission Mausam to enhance localized weather predictions across diverse climatic regions. The Bharat Forecast System (BharatFS) and Mithuna Forecast System (Mithuna-FS) are pivotal developments utilizing advanced computer simulations and AI/ML integration, offering precise forecasts at high resolutions for specific regions like panchayats. These systems leverage the Arunika Supercomputer to deliver short to medium-range predictions, refine urban weather forecasts, and significantly reduce biases, thus improving forecast accuracy and aiding decision-making for agriculture, urban management, and disaster risk reduction.
