India Advances Toward Nationwide 5G Coverage

The Union Government of India has announced the successful rollout of 5G networks by telecom service providers in all states and union territories, making 5G services accessible in 99.9% of districts across the country. As of October 31, 2025, over 508,000 5G Base Transceiver Stations (BTSs) enhance the country's connectivity, supporting applications like precision agriculture, remote education, and telemedicine. The government has introduced various initiatives, including spectrum auctions, financial reforms, and the launch of the GatiShakti Sanchar portal, to facilitate telecom infrastructure installations. Additionally, 100 5G labs have been established nationwide to drive socioeconomic applications and prepare for a burgeoning 6G ecosystem. This was disclosed by Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, in a Lok Sabha session.
