India Assumes Leadership Role in International IDEA

Gyanesh Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner of India, has taken over the Chairship of the Council of Member States of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) for 2026. This marks a recognition of India’s exemplary election management. During his acceptance speech in Stockholm, Kumar emphasized India's dedication to enhancing democratic practices worldwide. Under his chairmanship, the council will work under the theme "Democracy for inclusive, peaceful, resilient and sustainable world," focusing on reimagining democracy's future and promoting independent election management bodies.
