India Boosts Natural Gas Supply for Power Generation

The Indian government has implemented several measures to increase the availability of natural gas for power generation. Key initiatives include expanding the National Gas Grid and the City Gas Distribution network, setting up LNG terminals, and allowing domestic gas producers to sell gas through exchanges. Additionally, LNG has been categorized under Open General Licence, facilitating its import with nil customs duty when used for electricity generation. These efforts aim to enhance the Plant Load Factor of gas-based power plants, currently underutilized due to high generation costs, thus ensuring energy security and reducing reliance on coal and oil.
