India Boosts PHWR Development with Indigenous Distillation Technology

The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) in India has accelerated the growth of Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWR) by engaging M/s TEMA India to manufacture high-efficiency distillation columns, essential for heavy water production. This initiative, backed by BARC and NPCIL, aims to support the expansion of India's nuclear fleet and embodies the 'Make in India' philosophy. The technology transfer to the private sector is expected to enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities, with the first consignment of columns already flagged off.
