India Boosts Skill Development in Food Processing Sector
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries in India has launched various initiatives to address the skills gap in the food processing sector. The Food Industry Capacity and Skill Initiative (FICSI) offers more than 60 NCVET-approved job roles, reflecting industry requirements in areas such as plant-based proteins and fortified foods. Through initiatives like the Prime Minister's Formalization of Micro Enterprises (PMFME) scheme, over 1,09,312 beneficiaries have received training from 2020 to 2024-25. Moreover, institutions of national importance like NIFTEM-Thanjavur and NIFTEM-Kundli have developed and transferred over 160 technologies, promoting rural innovation and entrepreneurship across India. The government's focus on short-term training aims to enhance skills in modern food processing practices, ensuring competitiveness on a global scale.
