India Embarks on Major Fisheries Development in Konkan Region
The Government of India has unveiled a plan to develop 500 reservoirs and Amrit Sarovars, including 34 in Maharashtra's Konkan region, as part of the Union Budget 2026-27. This initiative, aimed at boosting fisheries and aquaculture, features district-based fish value chains and the establishment of Fish Farmer Producer Organizations. Additionally, the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying is promoting startups and women-led groups to enhance income and development within the sector.
