India Enhances Apprenticeship and Skill Development Programs

The Indian Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has emphasized the importance of On-the-Job Training (OJT) under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0 (PMKVY 4.0) to expose candidates to industry practices. Training providers must document OJT details on the SIDH portal to avoid penalties for non-compliance. For the fiscal year 2025-26, the Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme aims to engage 13 lakh apprentices, of which 7.12 lakh have been placed by October 2025. There's an introduction of National Occupational Standards (NOS) and Micro Credentials (MC) for flexible skilling, approved under the National Skills Qualification Framework. These efforts were highlighted by the Minister of State for Skill Development, aimed at meeting specific industry needs and facilitating educational advancement through the Academic Bank of Credit.
