India Enhances Cold-Chain Infrastructure to Minimize Food Loss

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries of India has commissioned a study to assess post-harvest losses of agricultural produce, revealing significant losses in commodities like cereals, pulses, and fruits. To address these losses, the Ministry has been strengthening the cold-chain infrastructure through the Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana. Although the direct impacts on food prices and emissions have not been quantified, enhancing cold-chain facilities is expected to improve supply chain efficiency and stabilize market prices. The scheme is demand-driven, and project proposals are regularly invited.
