India Establishes Anusandhan National Research Foundation to Boost R&D
The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) has been officially established following the enactment of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation Act, 2023. Operating since February 2024, ANRF aims to direct research, innovation, and entrepreneurship in diverse scientific sectors including natural sciences, engineering, and technology. Key initiatives include the Mission for Advancement in High-impact Areas (MAHA) and support through competitive funding and fellowships. The ANRF also focuses on fostering industry-academia collaboration, promoting private sector R&D involvement, and building indigenous capabilities in critical technologies. Additionally, the RDI Scheme with a ₹1 lakh crore outlay over six years is launched to spur private sector investment in research and innovation. This strategic movement is anticipated to solidify India's research ecosystem and strengthen the nation's position in various technological domains.
