India Faces Growing Obesity Challenge Beyond Cosmetic Concerns

At the India International Science Festival, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Science & Technology, highlighted the growing metabolic health burden of obesity in India, which is no longer seen as a mere cosmetic issue but a significant public health challenge. The Minister called for a scientific and disciplined policy approach to tackle misinformation and unregulated practices aggravating the obesity crisis. He emphasized that obesity, especially visceral obesity prevalent in Indian populations, needs urgent attention and collaboration across scientific, clinical, and policy sectors to manage the rising incidence of related metabolic disorders such as diabetes and fatty liver in India.
