India Forms AI Governance and Economic Group to Lead National AI Strategy

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, has announced the formation of the AI Governance and Economic Group (AIGEG). This high-level inter-ministerial body will steer AI governance strategies, coordinate policy development, and address labor market impacts related to AI innovations. The AIGEG will promote responsible AI deployment and align policies across various government sectors. This initiative includes a supporting Technology and Policy Expert Committee offering guidance on global AI trends and risks. Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw will chair the group, with Shri Jitin Prasada serving as Vice Chairperson.
