India Forms Expert Committee on Invasive Species
The National Biodiversity Authority, under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has established an Expert Committee on Invasive Alien Species. This action adheres to the National Green Tribunal's directives to combat the ecological and socio-economic risks posed by these species in India. The committee, led by Shri Dhananjai Mohan, includes a multi-disciplinary team tasked with compiling a national list of invasive species, identifying high-risk threats, and recommending management strategies to safeguard India's biodiversity. The committee's efforts aim to foster ecosystem resilience and support both national and global biodiversity commitments over the next two years.
