India Intensifies Efforts Towards TB Elimination on World TB Day 2026

On World TB Day 2026, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, launched a national initiative to further India’s goal of eliminating tuberculosis (TB) ahead of global targets. Underlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the country has witnessed significant advancement in TB reduction. Key achievements over the past decade include a 21% reduction in TB incidence and a 25% decline in TB mortality. The government’s enhancements in treatment coverage and community-led efforts have marked India’s leadership in fighting TB. New technologies and significant funding increases have further bolstered these efforts, highlighted by the launch of the TB Mukt Bharat App featuring an AI-enabled chatbot. Community participation is central to this mission, with the campaign aiming to cover 1.58 lakh villages and urban wards, emphasizing early detection and access to TB care. The continued support from multiple stakeholders, innovative diagnostics, and treatment regimens are critical in India's path towards achieving a TB-free nation.
