India Launches ₹507.37 Crores Project for Disaster-Resilient Villages

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj, in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority, has initiated a ₹507.37 crore National Project aimed at strengthening Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction Initiatives across India. Focused on 20 states, the project will target 81 disaster-prone districts, developing 20 Model Gram Panchayats per state as replicable models for disaster risk reduction. These Panchayats will integrate disaster resilience into planning, infrastructure, and preparation strategies, featuring capacity-building programs at the grassroots level. By promoting community ownership and inter-institutional coordination, this initiative aims to enhance disaster mitigation and build a resilient rural landscape throughout India.
