India Launches Free Nationwide HPV Vaccination Campaign
India has initiated a nationwide Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination program to combat cervical cancer, targeting 1.15 crore girls aged 14. The initiative, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 28, 2026, in Ajmer, Rajasthan, aims to prevent cervical cancer, which is the second most common cancer among women in India. The program uses Gardasil-4, a vaccine providing 93–100% effectiveness and is part of efforts aligning with global goals to eliminate cervical cancer. The campaign will run for 90 days, offering vaccines free-of-cost at government health facilities.
