India Launches Mission to Boost Domestic Pulse Production

The Indian government has initiated the 'Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses', a scheme aimed at increasing domestic pulses production and achieving self-sufficiency over six years from 2025 to 2031, with a budget of Rs. 11,440 crore. The mission focuses on key pulses such as Tur, Urad, and Masoor, climate-resilient seeds, expanding cultivation areas, and improving post-harvest management techniques. It includes support for assured procurement by NAFED and NCCF under the Price Support Scheme, aiming to produce 350 lakh tonnes of pulses by 2031. Additionally, the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Extension is being implemented to make the extension system more farmer-driven through district-level Agricultural Technology Management Agencies.
