India Launches National Rollout of Vessel Monitoring System
The Department of Fisheries in India has launched a National Rollout Plan for the Vessel Communication and Support System (VCSS), which aims to install transponders on marine fishing vessels to enhance sea safety and regulatory compliance. This initiative is part of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana and includes technical support from the Indian Space Research Organization. More than 49,000 transponders have been installed so far. The plan covers regulatory enforcement and prohibits environmentally harmful fishing practices.
