The Government of India has approved the Small Hydro Power Development Scheme with a budget of ₹2,584.60 crore aimed at boosting small hydroelectric projects with capacities between 1-25 MW. The scheme aims to add around 1,500 MW of hydropower capacity, focusing on hilly and northeastern regions that have high untapped potential. This strategic initiative is set to enhance energy security, promote sustainable development, and generate substantial employment during the construction phase, contributing to 51 lakh person-days of work.
