India Launches Watershed Mahotsav 2025 to Strengthen Water Security in Nagaland

Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, Minister of State for Rural Development, inaugurated the Watershed Mahotsav 2025 in Kohima, Nagaland, emphasizing water security as a cornerstone of national security. This initiative, Mission Watershed PUNARUTTHAN, strives to rejuvenate traditional water bodies, restore degraded lands, and enhance water harvesting systems in partnership with community efforts like MGNREGA. Acknowledging Nagaland's unique cultural heritage, the initiative seeks to integrate the state into India's broader socio-economic development framework by promoting tourism, trade, agriculture, and cultural exchange. Through these efforts, Nagaland is emerging as a key player in India’s growth journey, highlighting both traditional strengths and modern opportunities. Key achievements listed include the approval of 14 watershed projects, the renovation of 555 water harvesting structures, and the restoration of 120 springs, benefiting over 6,500 farmers in the region. The federal government's 90% central funding underscores a commitment to the region's development, especially concerning crucial resources like water management in a globally competitive environment.
