India Mandates Jute Packaging for Key Commodities

In an effort to promote the use of eco-friendly materials, the Government of India has enforced the compulsory use of jute packaging for 100% of food grains and 20% of sugar for the season 2024-25 under the Jute Packaging Material (Compulsory Use in Packaging Commodities) Act, 1987. This move, announced by Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita, aims to enhance sustainability and support the jute industry. The government has delegated inspection and compliance powers to various authorities to ensure adherence to the regulations.
