India Plans Major Power Capacity Expansion by 2031
In response to increasing peak electricity demands, the Indian government has unveiled a strategic plan to expand its power generation and transmission infrastructure significantly. By 2031-32, the country's installed generation capacity is projected to reach 874 GW, covering contributions from traditional, nuclear, and renewable energy sources like solar and wind. Initiatives include the development of thermal plants, hydroelectric projects, and advanced energy storage systems. Additionally, transmission systems will be enhanced with new lines spanning 1,91,474 km. This comprehensive energy plan aims to ensure that power availability meets future demands while promoting renewable energy sources and facilitating foreign investment through policy support and infrastructure development.
