India Reports 7.93% Decline in Carbon Emissions for 2020
India's net greenhouse gas emissions in 2020 were recorded at 2,437 million tonnes CO2 equivalent, marking a 7.93% decrease from 2019, driven primarily by reductions in energy and industrial sectors. As part of its Paris Agreement commitments, India has set ambitious targets for emission intensity reduction and non-fossil fuel capacity, achieving some goals ahead of schedule. The nation is also advancing its renewable energy efforts, electric vehicle adoption, and the National Green Hydrogen Mission to enhance sustainable development and move towards a net-zero emission target by 2070.
