India Strengthens Dam Safety Regulations with Comprehensive Inspections and Rehabilitation Initiatives

The Indian government's Dam Safety Act, 2021, has institutionalized mandatory pre- and post-monsoon audits across all states, complementing efforts in rehabilitation and improvement under the Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) Phases II and III. The Act mandates the establishment of Independent Panels of Experts for dam safety evaluations, while the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) oversees the implementation and compliance with dam safety regulations. The initiatives aim to bolster dam safety standards, mitigate hydrological risks, and ensure robust emergency preparedness across the country.
