India Strengthens Food Safety Enforcement with Upgraded Labs

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has announced significant upgrades in India's food safety enforcement infrastructure. Under the SoFTeL scheme, 47 state food testing laboratories have been enhanced and 34 new microbiology labs established. Additionally, to bridge gaps in rural testing capabilities, states and union territories have acquired 305 mobile food testing labs with support from FSSAI. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to ensure compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and to enhance food safety monitoring and risk assessment.
