India Strengthens Measures Against White Spot Disease in Shrimp Farming
The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying has reported the discovery of White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) in Andhra Pradesh through its systematic surveillance under the National Surveillance Programme for Aquatic Animal Diseases. Despite the recent detections, reported severe losses to shrimp farmers are minimal. The government has enforced biosecurity measures, including mandatory quarantine and registration of aquaculture facilities, alongside alternative aquaculture systems to reduce risks. Insurance support under PMMSY and PM-MKSSY is also provided to safeguard farmers against potential losses.
