India to Launch E-Observer System for Fishing Monitoring
India is set to introduce an onboard electronic observer system for remote monitoring of marine fish catch, as announced by Union Fisheries Secretary Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi. This initiative aims to enhance fisheries data management and provide accurate scientific data for stock assessment. The announcement was made during a global workshop on species identification organized by the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission and Fishery Survey of India. The system will help India comply with international guidelines and improve its competitiveness in global markets, while also addressing concerns over the global quota system for tuna fishing.
