India Witnesses Significant Growth in Aquaculture Sector Over the Decade

India has witnessed notable growth in its aquaculture and fisheries sector over the past decade, attributed to various initiatives by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying. Financial investments of Rs. 39,272 crore through schemes like Blue Revolution and Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana have driven this growth. Fish production soared from 95.79 lakh tonnes in 2013-14 to 197.75 lakh tonnes in 2024-25, marking a transformation led by a 147% increase in inland fisheries and aquaculture. Punjab's fish production doubled from 2013-14 to 2024-25.
