Indian Astronaut to Study Space Responses and Extremophiles
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh announced that Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla will conduct research on physical, cognitive, and physiological responses in space, focusing on the effects of electronic displays in microgravity. The research will also explore skeletal muscle dysfunction and the survival of extremophiles like Tardigrades. This mission is part of India's first human spaceflight, Gaganyaan, targeted for early 2027, and signifies India's growing role in international space exploration.
