Indian Government Boosts EV Charging Infrastructure with New Schemes
The Indian government has designated the installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) as an unlicensed activity, enabling private entities to set up charging stations based on the Ministry of Power's guidelines. To enhance the public charging infrastructure, the government has allocated Rs.912.50 crore and Rs.2,000 crore under the FAME-II and PM E-DRIVE schemes, respectively. As of now, 29,151 public EV charging stations have been installed nationwide, facilitated by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. The schemes aim to support electric mobility expansion across India, including in Tier-2 cities and rural areas.
