Indian Judicial System Undergoes Major Digital Transformation Through e-Courts Project Phase-III

The Indian government's Ministry of Law and Justice is spearheading a significant digital transformation in the country's judicial system through the e-Courts Project Phase-III. Allocating Rs.7,210 crore over four years, the project aims to convert Indian courts into digital and paperless environments by digitizing case records and expanding video conferencing infrastructure across courts and jails. Notable achievements include the connectivity of 99.5% of court complexes to a Wide Area Network, establishment of virtual courts, and digitization of billions of pages in court records. Despite progress, challenges such as regional infrastructural discrepancies and digital literacy gaps persist. Efforts are ongoing to address these issues, aiming to enhance access to justice and expedite case processing across the nation.
