Indian Ministry of Tourism Unveils New Initiatives to Boost Tourism
The Ministry of Tourism in India has reported significant growth in foreign tourist arrivals over the past few years, with numbers rising from 15.27 lakh in 2021 to a provisional 69.80 lakh in 2025. To further enhance tourist experiences and attract more visitors, the Ministry has launched various initiatives under schemes like 'Swadesh Darshan', 'PRASHAD', and 'Assistance to Central Agencies for Tourism Infrastructure Development'. Notably, the Swadesh Darshan Scheme has been revamped as Swadesh Darshan 2.0 to focus on sustainable, destination-centric tourism. The Ministry has also introduced the Challenge Based Destination Development (CBDD) sub-scheme, targeting holistic tourist site development. In Tamil Nadu, several projects have been sanctioned, including the development of coastal circuits and transformation of spiritual sites, aiming to make iconic tourist centers globally competitive.
