Indian Railways Accelerates Track Speed Upgrades: 79% Network Now Speeds Above 110 kmph
The Ministry of Railways has achieved a significant milestone in enhancing the speed potential of its tracks. Over the last 11 years, various upgradation techniques like the implementation of thicker rails, wider sleepers, and modern maintenance machinery have been employed. This comprehensive improvement has led to 79% of the railway tracks now supporting speeds of 110 kmph and above, up from 40% in 2014. These changes have transformed the speed capabilities across the Indian Railways network, as detailed in a parliamentary reply by Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
