Indian Railways Enhances Accessibility for Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities

The Ministry of Railways has announced new measures to enhance travel convenience for senior citizens, women above 45, and persons with disabilities. Lower berths are automatically allotted, subject to availability, to senior citizens and women aged 45 and above. Additional quotas exist for pregnant women. Separate compartments are provided for persons with disabilities, and modern trains like Amrit Bharat and Vande Bharat have been designed with wheelchair spaces and Divyangjan-friendly toilets. These efforts reflect the ministry’s ongoing commitment to improving accessibility and comfort for all passengers. The announcement was made by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in a recent Rajya Sabha session.
