Indian Railways Sets New Freight Record in 2025–26
Indian Railways achieved a remarkable record in cargo transport for the year 2025–26, moving 1670 Million Tonnes of freight with a 3.25% increase over the previous year. Significant growth was noted in the transportation of Fertilisers and Pig Iron & Steel, each surging by over 13%, driven by rising demand for agricultural and industrial inputs. Iron Ore and Cement transport also saw significant rises, contributing to ongoing infrastructure developments. Zones such as the South Western Railway and North Central Railway led the outstanding performance with double-digit growth in freight loading, enhancing the overall efficiency and capacity of the national logistics network.
