Indian Railways Surplus Boosted by Lower Energy Costs and Increased Freight
The Indian Railways has reported a surplus in the last three fiscal years, driven by lower energy costs, better maintenance practices, and increased freight movement, as stated by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The Gross Traffic Receipts grew at a compound annual growth rate of 5.1% from 2022-23 to 2024-25, despite maintaining a high operating ratio of over 98% each year.
