Indian Researchers Discover Ultra-Compact Binary System

Gauhati University, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, and Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences, supported by the Department of Science and Technology's INSPIRE programme, have discovered one of the shortest-period binary systems involving a blue straggler star and a brown dwarf companion. With a staggering orbital period of just 5.6 hours, this finding could significantly enhance scientists' understanding of stellar evolution, particularly within extreme environments like the 'brown dwarf desert'.
