Indian Scientists Redefine Bacterial Gene Regulation

Researchers from the Bose Institute in collaboration with Rutgers University have challenged a long-standing model of bacterial gene regulation. The study finds that the transcription initiation factor in Bacillus subtilis, contrary to the established model primarily observed in E. coli, remains attached throughout transcription, rewriting assumptions about bacterial gene regulation and evolution. This breakthrough may open new pathways for developing antibiotics and understanding bacterial physiology and evolution.
