India's Agricultural Budget Sees a Sixfold Increase over 12 Years

India's Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (DA&FW) budget has increased significantly from ₹21,933.50 crore in 2013-14 to ₹1,27,290.16 crore in 2025-26, marking a sixfold growth in 12 years. This boost in funds supports multiple initiatives and schemes aimed at enhancing the welfare of farmers and the agricultural sector, including PM-KISAN, PM-AASHA, and the National Mission on Edible Oils. The enhanced funding and initiatives have led to a notable increase in farmers' income, with Indian Council on Agricultural Research (ICAR) recording income doubling for 75,000 farmers. Furthermore, the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) data shows a considerable rise in the average monthly income per agricultural household from ₹6,426 in 2012-13 to ₹10,218 in 2018-19.
