India's Ambitious Mission to Achieve 'Zero Dumpsites' by 2026

India launched the Dumpsite Remediation Accelerator Programme to achieve 'Zero Dumpsites' under the Swachh Bharat Mission by October 2026. The initiative focuses on remediating over 200 high-impact dumpsites which contain the bulk of India's remaining legacy waste. Using a circular economy approach, remediated waste is turned into resources like road-building material and refuse-derived fuel. The programme is structured around the 5P model and aims to prevent future dumpsite creation while reclaiming land for infrastructure or green cover.
