India's Ambitious Nuclear Energy Mission Aims for 100 GW Capacity by 2047

The Government of India has outlined a comprehensive plan for its nuclear energy sector, aiming for a 100 GW capacity by 2047. This strategic move is part of the country's broader goal to ensure long-term energy security, increase self-reliance, and meet its net-zero carbon emissions target by 2070. The expansion includes the development of indigenous three-stage reactors and small modular reactors (SMRs), with a total planned increase in nuclear power capacity to 13600 MW by 2031-32. New reactor fleets and Research and Development for indigenous SMRs are central to this mission. Infrastructure development is underway, with Gorakhpur in Haryana seeing significant progress.
