India's Ambitious Nuclear Energy Mission Targets 100 GWe by 2047
The Government of India, under the Nuclear Energy Mission, is aiming to achieve a nuclear power generation capacity of 100 GWe by 2047. The plan, outlined in the Union Budget 2025-26 and supported by the SHANTI Act, includes deploying large pressure heavy water reactors and developing small modular reactors to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and aid India’s clean energy transition. The Department of Atomic Energy is also investing in human resource development, collaborations with the private sector, and research to foster indigenous technology and innovation.
