India's BioE3 Policy Aims to Revolutionize Biomanufacturing

The Government of India has introduced the BioE3 Policy to propel biomanufacturing by adopting advanced technologies and fostering research in high-value bio-based products. The policy focuses on six critical areas including biopolymers, smart proteins, and precision biotherapeutics, and promotes the development of state-of-the-art facilities like Biofoundries and Bio-AI Hubs. Experiments on the International Space Station with microalgae and cyanobacteria aim to develop systems for future space missions, while the newly launched DBT-ICGEB Biofoundry in New Delhi enhances the scaling of laboratory innovations to commercial applicability.
